This week mark Diabetes Awareness Week. If you have Diabetes, your eyes are at risk from Diabetic Retinopathy, a condition that can lead to sight loss if it’s not treated. It occurs when Diabetes damages the smaller blood vessels inside the retina, the light sensitive area at the back of the eye. At first you may not notice any changes to your sight but over time diabetic retinopathy can get worse, potentially affecting both eyes.

As everybody with diabetes, both type 1 and type 2 is at risk, it is vital that you have a full, comprehensive sight test every year.

Here at Redgate Opticians we also provide Digital Retinal photography to monitor any changes to the retina so that we can ensure the right course of action is taken to provide you with, and manage the best course of treatment necessary.

So, if you have any questions or concerns please contact the practice or book in for a FREE Eye Examination.
