Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory eye condition in which the normally round dome-shaped clear window of the eye (cornea) progressively thins causing a cone-like bulge to develop. This eventually impairs the ability of the eye to focus properly, potentially causing poor vision.
In order to diagnose or monitor Keratoconus, a special machine called a Topographer is needed to assess the detailed shape of the front of the eye. Redgate Opticians in High Wycombe has a Zeiss Topographer and our expert Optometrists have decades of experience in picking up and managing cases of Keratoconus.
Our Clinics cover the detection, monitoring and stabilising of the vision using Semi-Scleral Contact Lenses. These are custom made Contact Lenses that reshape the surface of the eye to improve the focus. We often encounter patients who no longer meet the driving standard with glasses, but can meet the standard with our custom made Semi-Scleral Lens technology.
